Exports of trout in Iran reach 3,094 tons worth USD6.6M in 3 months

(MENAFN) Abbas Mokhtari, director general of the Iranian Ministry of Agriculture’s Office of Quality Improvement, Processing, and Aquatic Market, reported that Iran exported 3,094 tons of trout worth USD6.6 million during the first quarter of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20-June 20). This represents an increase from the 2,431 tons valued at USD6.9 million exported in the same period the previous year.
Mokhtari highlighted that the overall value of Iran’s fishery exports rose by over 30 percent in the first quarter of this year compared to the previous year. During this period, Iran exported 73,369 tons of fishery products valued at USD121.4 million, compared to 52,282 tons worth USD93.1 million in the same period last year. This indicates a more than 40 percent increase in the weight of fishery exports year-on-year.
According to the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), Iran's total fishery exports for the last Iranian calendar year (ending March 19) grew by three percent to exceed USD310 million. The weight of exported fishery products during this period was 149,000 metric tons, marking a 12 percent increase from the previous year. Notably, shrimp exports reached USD98.5 million, making up 32 percent of Iran's total fishery export value. The primary destinations for Iranian shrimp were Russia, the United Arab Emirates, and China, although the value of shrimp exports decreased by 26 percent compared to the previous year.
Fisheries exports account for less than 70 percent of Iran's total exports, with the UAE, China, Russia, and Iraq being the major markets for these products. Additionally, Iran imported 24,000 metric tons of fishery products worth USD72 million last year, reflecting a significant increase of 121 percent in weight and 113 percent in value.
