Brussels, July 15 (Petra) -- Minister for Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Toukan Monday signed, in Brussels, a €400 million loan agreement with the European investment bank (EIB) for the results-based programme to enhance water security in Jordan and climate adaptation.
According to a statement, the programme, announced during the royal visit to Brussels on November 7, supports reforms in the water sector through priority measures relating to reducing water losses in water facilities, enhancing sustainable water supply, improving operational efficiency, increasing the level of service to water and sanitation subscribers throughout the Kingdom and enhancing capabilities in the water sector.
Touqan said the government would soon sign a €50 million loan agreement with the EIB through the Global Concessional Financing Mechanism (GCFF) managed by the World Bank to support the programme's implementation.
Touqan praised the EIB's support in the form of investment and technical loans and grants, providing financing to support projects in key sectors, including water, sanitation, energy, transport, health care, industry, mining, education, private sector development, infrastructure and financing for Jordanian banks.
