Qatar's Al Mansoori, Alabdulmalik Shine At South African Jockey Academy

Doha, Qatar: The Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) announced the achievements of its talented apprentices, Abdulla Al Mansoori and Mohammed Alabdulmalik, during their recent stint at the prestigious South African Jockey Academy.

Abdulla Al Mansoori, who arrived in South Africa in May 2024, made his South African racing debut on 22nd May at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse. It was followed by a remarkable victory at his second race meeting at Fairview Racecourse in port Elizabeth, riding First Origin, trained by Gavin Smith, Abdulla secured his first win, setting the stage for an impressive season.

Throughout his stay, Abdulla traveled and rode at all the racing centres in South Africa. He had 27 rides and on several occasions was so close to increasing the number of his wins, as he finished placed in seven races– a testament to his hard work and commitment.

Mohammed Alabdulmalik, who joined the South African Jockey Academy in late June, quickly made his presence felt. His inaugural race on June 26 at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse resulted in a thrilling victory astride Drive By, trained by Louis Goosen.

Mohammed's talent shone through as he continued to ride in South Africa, claiming wins at each of the four race meetings he participated in.

Notably, he secured his second win on July 2 at Fairview Racecourse aboard Pashtunwali, trained by Cliffie Miller. His third win came on July 5, riding Magic Prince for trainer Zietsman Oosthuizen, and his fourth win was aboard Spirit of Levana at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse on the 10th of July, trained by Glen Kotzen. In total, Mohammed competed in thirteen races, achieving four wins and four places.

Rocky Agrella, SA Jockey Academy Riding Master expressed his pride in the apprentice's accomplishments. He said,“Abdulla Al Mansoori and Mohammed Alabdulmalik exemplify dedication, hard work, and impeccable manners. Their commitment during their time in South Africa was commendable, their achievements speak volumes about their character and work ethic.”

The South African Jockey Academy, renowned for its world-class facilities and expert riding masters, provided the ideal environment for these young riders to develop their skills.

The exchange of knowledge and experiences between Qatari and South African jockeys enriches the global racing community.
