7 Civilians Injured In Militant Attack On NW Pakistan Cantonment

The militants attempted to breach the high-security cantonment area by detonating an explosive-laden vehicle on the road leading to the outer wall, connecting it with a supply depot.

Reports indicate that timely action by security forces prevented the terrorists' entry, prompting the initiation of a clearance operation in the area.

Muhammad Numan, a spokesperson for government hospitals in Bannu, confirmed that eight individuals sustained injuries during the attack, as reported by Dawn.

Local residents recounted hearing two explosions around 4:40 am near the cantonment, followed by gunfire. The blasts caused damage to nearby houses and shops.

In a media statement, the Jaish-e-Fursan (Hafiz Gul Bahadur Group), a faction of the Pakistani Taliban or TTP, claimed responsibility for the attack.

Pakistan attributes the recent increase in militant activities to factions operating from across the border in Afghanistan, alleging that TTP leaders find sanctuary there and organize training camps for launching attacks within Pakistan.

However, Taliban authorities in Kabul say that Pakistan's domestic security issues are its responsibility and assert that Afghanistan soil is not used for hostile activities against Pakistan.
