Biden informs governors that he underwent medical checkup

(MENAFN) United States President Joe Biden recently informed a group of Democratic governors that he had undergone a medical checkup after his underwhelming performance in last week’s election debate against Donald Trump, according to Politico, which cited anonymous sources.

During the debate, hosted by a news agency last Thursday, the 81-year-old President appeared frail and seemed to lose his train of thought on several occasions. Both Republican and Democratic commentators largely agreed that trump had a stronger performance in what was the first of two scheduled debates before the November 5 presidential election.

A recent survey indicated that 72percent of registered voters doubt Biden's mental and cognitive capacity to serve as president. Following Biden’s perceived poor showing, various United States media outlets reported increasing pressure from within the Democratic Party and major donors for him to consider withdrawing from the election race.

Politico reported that on Wednesday, President Biden held a private, hour-long meeting with over 20 Democratic governors, during which he mentioned having a recent medical checkup after being asked about his health. An unnamed source familiar with Biden’s schedule clarified that the President referred to a brief checkup conducted by a White House physician in the days following the debate, which did not include any major tests. Biden reportedly assured the governors that he was deemed to be in good health after the checkup.

Additionally, the White House has firmly stated that President Biden does not suffer from dementia, countering speculation about his mental fitness. This statement comes amid growing scrutiny of Biden's physical and cognitive health as he continues his campaign for re-election.
