UN 2024 Sustainable Development Report calls for strengthened global cooperation

(MENAFN) The 2024 Sustainable Development Report, published by the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (UNSDSN) in collaboration with Türkiye’s Bogazici University, marks an important milestone in assessing global progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set forth by the United Nations in 2015. Highlighting findings since the adoption of these goals, the report underscores significant challenges in achieving them by 2030, with notable progress reported on only 16 percent of the targets, while 84 percent have seen limited or reversed advancements.

In a statement, Bogazici University Rector Professor Dr. Naci Inci emphasized the report’s central message: the urgent need for strengthened global cooperation and innovative financing mechanisms. These are essential to overcoming the formidable barriers hindering progress across various dimensions of sustainable development, from poverty eradication to climate action and beyond.

The SDG Index, a key component of the report, continues to showcase Scandinavian countries’ leadership in sustainable development. Finland maintains its top position, followed closely by Sweden, Denmark, Germany, and France, illustrating their consistent commitment to achieving sustainable development milestones.

Türkiye, ranked 72nd among 167 nations with a score of 70.5, faces ongoing challenges in advancing its sustainable development agenda. The report serves as a critical call to action, urging governments, businesses, and civil society worldwide to intensify their efforts in pursuit of the SDGs. By fostering inclusive partnerships and exploring innovative financing strategies, stakeholders can collectively accelerate progress towards a more sustainable and equitable future for all.
