Netanyahu declares shift by Israeli forces towards Lebanon border

(MENAFN) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced plans for Israeli forces to shift towards the country’s border with Lebanon following the winding down of major combat operations against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. In his first Israeli television interview since the conflict with Hamas began last October, Netanyahu indicated that while intense fighting in Gaza's Rafah area is subsiding, ongoing military activities will continue in other forms.

Netanyahu emphasized that with troops becoming available after operations in Gaza, Israel intends to redeploy units to confront Hezbollah in the north, where recent exchanges of rocket fire have escalated tensions. The redeployment aims not only to enhance security but also to facilitate the return of evacuated Israeli residents to the border region.

In an interview with Israel’s Channel 14 TV, Netanyahu underscored the strategic imperative of protecting Israeli citizens while addressing rising concerns about broader regional implications. He dismissed fears of drawing United States forces into a wider conflict, asserting Israel's readiness to manage multiple fronts if necessary.

The move to redeploy forces towards Lebanon signals Israel's proactive stance amid evolving security dynamics in the Middle East. As tensions persist and military strategies adapt, Netanyahu's announcement underscores Israel's strategic recalibration in response to regional challenges.
