Kenya Protests Death Toll Rises To 23

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) International media reports have confirmed the deaths of 23 protesters due to security forces' intervention during demonstrations in Kenya yesterday.

According to Simon Kigondu, head of the Kenya Medical Association, the number of casualties from incidents across the country, especially in Nairobi, following Police shooting at protesters opposing government tax regulations and entry into the Parliament building, has risen to 23.

Kigondu further added that a significant number have been injured, with at least 20 in critical condition. Many others have been detained.

Protests in some areas led to looting and property damage.

The protests in Kenya erupted following the proposal of tax hikes. The bill, now a subject of intense demand for fundamental review by protesters, has turned into one of President William Ruto's most serious crises in his two-year presidency.

Kenyan media reports indicate protests against this bill have occurred in at least 35 out of 47 counties in Kenya, spanning from major cities to rural areas.

The situation in Kenya remains tense as protests continue amidst widespread calls for governmental reconsideration of the tax legislation, highlighting deep public discontent and political challenges for President Ruto's administration.
