Dengue cases in Myanmar rise to 1,309 in around 6 months

(MENAFN) Myanmar's Ministry of health reported a total of 1,309 cases of dengue fever and three fatalities from January 1 to June 15 this year, marking a significant reduction in the outbreak rate compared to previous years. Health ministry official Than Naing Soe provided insights into the current situation, emphasizing efforts to combat the disease.

Yangon Region recorded the highest number of dengue cases with 426 reported, followed by Mon State with 282 cases and Mandalay Region with 155 cases. The fatalities were reported in Yangon, Ayeyarwady, and Bago regions, highlighting the geographical spread and impact of the disease across different parts of Myanmar.

Dengue fever typically manifests with sudden high fever and general malaise, primarily affecting children aged five to nine years and older individuals. To address this public health challenge, Myanmar has implemented various measures. These include raising public awareness about preventive measures, conducting anti-mosquito spraying in households, and ensuring clinics and hospitals are well-equipped to handle dengue fever patients promptly and effectively.

In 2023, Myanmar reported a total of 16,130 cases of dengue fever across several regions and states, including Yangon, Mon, Rakhine, Ayeyawady, and Nay Pyi Taw. The current efforts to reduce cases in 2024 demonstrate ongoing vigilance and proactive measures to mitigate the impact of dengue fever on public health in Myanmar. Continued collaboration between health authorities and communities is crucial in sustaining these efforts and further reducing the incidence of dengue fever across the country.
