Regional head announces three citizens murdered in Ukrainian attacks on Russian town

(MENAFN) Denis Pushilin, the head of Russia's Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), has reported casualties and significant damage following Ukrainian military strikes on Donetsk and Gorlovka. According to Pushilin, three civilians were killed and several others injured during what he described as large-scale bombardments initiated by Kiev forces at 4am local time. These strikes coincided with Russia's Day of Remembrance and Sorrow, commemorating victims of Nazi Germany's invasion of the Soviet Union in World War Two.

Pushilin highlighted the use of United States-made M26 rockets with cluster warheads, fired from HIMARS multiple rocket launchers provided to Ukraine by Washington. He specified that the attack targeted the Budennovsky district of Donetsk, resulting in the deaths of three individuals employed by a local construction firm. Additionally, an elderly man sustained moderate injuries from an anti-personnel land mine in another part of the city.

The strikes also inflicted damage on residential buildings and civilian infrastructure in Donetsk, with six residential structures and four facilities affected. Pushilin further noted an incident northeast of Donetsk in Gorlovka, where a Ukrainian drone reportedly attacked a moving passenger bus, injuring three people, one of whom suffered serious wounds.

The escalation in violence underscores ongoing tensions in the region, with civilian casualties and infrastructure damage exacerbating humanitarian concerns. Pushilin's statements highlight the localized impact of military operations on communities within the DPR, raising international scrutiny and calls for de-escalation to mitigate further loss of life and destruction. As the situation evolves, the implications of such military actions on regional stability and diplomatic efforts remain critical considerations for all parties involved.
