Asian Fencing Tourney Begins In Kuwait And Bags A Bronze


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, June 22 (KUNA -- The Asian fencing tournament kicked off in Kuwait on Saturday in a sports event involving up to 350 champions representing 36 states.
The inauguration proceeded under the sponsorship and presence of the Minister of Social Affairs, Family Affairs and Childhood, and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah, the head of the Asian Fencing Confederation sheikh Salem Al-Qasimi and his peer of the Kuwaiti Olympic Committee, Sheikh Fahad Al-Nasser Al-Sabah.
The head of the Kuwait Fencing Federation Abdulkarim Al-Shamlan said in his keynote statement at the inauguration ceremony that Kuwait has always incubated international sports events.
In the first competition, the Korean fencer Oh Sang-uk won the gold medal in the saber category beating the Chinese Changping who bagged the silver, while the Kuwaiti Yusuf Al-Shemlan and the Iranian Mohammad Rahbari took the bronze.
In the epee, the Chinese Yu Sihan bagged the gold trophy beating her fellow citizen Sun Yiwen who settled with the silver. The South Koreans Kang Young-mi and Song Se-ra took the bronze. (end)
