Amman, January 21 (Petra) - Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh said the meetings at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos last week showed that reforms led by His Majesty King Abdullah II "are the subject of appreciation and admiration from various international institutions and international decision-making circles."
Khasawneh added at a Cabinet session Sunday, "There is full awareness of the repercussions of the continuation of the brutal Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and an appreciation of the Jordanian positions on the necessity to stop this aggression immediately, ensure widespread and sustainable access to humanitarian and medical aid, fuel, and needs."
n Israeli settler violence in the occupied West Bank, Khasawneh said, "It is necessary to end settler violence and move to a political horizon towards the two-state solution, ensuring the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with complete sovereignty along the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital."
He added that the Director General of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristina Georgieva, praised the financial and monetary performance and the financial, monetary and economic policies of the Kingdom in a meeting with her in Davos.
He said that Georgieva said Jordan's reforms have the IMF's "full" support, adding the international financial organisations and donors "appreciate" the King, who is respected in decision-making circles.
During the meeting, Georgieva praised the Jordanian financial and economic performance, as well as the monetary performance of the Central Bank of Jordan, including reaching strategic reserves of $18.2 billion, a record number that covers the Kingdom's needs for imports for months.
Khasawneh spoke about his meetings during the forum with directors and leaders of investment companies to explain Jordan's reforms with its three pillars that seek to modernise the Kingdom's political and economic spheres and the public sector.
He added, "There is a lot of goodwill directed towards the Kingdom due to the prudence of our policies and the great respect and doors that His Majesty King Abdullah II opens for us due to the high credibility that he enjoys internationally on the political level and his rational policies and the adoption of the correct positions regarding various issues in a principled and renaissance context."
Khasawneh briefed his ministers that he had received an investor proposal regarding the National Carrier Project, adding that the Special Tenders Committee received the offer, "There are other parties interested in this basic, vital and important project, and we will knock on all doors within the legal and procedural mechanisms currently available to achieve the necessary conditions for implementing this vital and important project within the framework of appropriate price rules and within timetables to enter the water supply line by the year 2029."
Khasawneh added, "There is a lot of interest in the investment map in Jordan, and there is admiration for the general performance of the Jordanian economy during the past year up to its last quarter, including exceeding our best and optimal performance in the tourism sector... despite the last quarter of last year, the performance of tourism was better than 2019, which was the best base year."
On regional tensions, he said, "There is an awareness that the longer this blatant Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip continues, the more it will produce inflationary effects."
Khasawneh directed his minister of industry to strengthen the supervisory tools on the market, praising the Jordanian Armed Forces for providing support and fixing the prices of staples in the markets of the Military Consumer Corporation until the end of Ramadan.
The Premier said, "Our economic performance over the past two years and up to the last quarter of 2023 was positive, and we rebounded from negative growth rates and approached a 2.8% growth rate."
