North Korea expresses disapproval towards joint declaration by G7 foreign ministers

(MENAFN) North Korea expressed strong condemnation on Tuesday towards the joint statement released by the G7 foreign ministers, which denounced Pyongyang's nuclear and missile programs. The isolated nation demanded the immediate dismantling of what it termed a "confrontation group of peace destroyers" formed by the G7.

The joint statement, issued at the conclusion of a meeting in Tokyo last week, specifically condemned North Korea's ballistic missile programs and raised concerns about suspected arms transfers to Russia. The official Korean Central News Agency reported Jo Chol-soo, the director-general of the International Organizations Department at the North Korean Foreign Ministry, firmly rejecting and strongly condemning the joint statement. Jo characterized the accusations against North Korea as "unfounded and unreasonable."

In his statement, Jo dismissed the G7 as a group that only serves the interests of a few countries, asserting that it cannot represent the international community. He described the G7 as a "confrontational group of destroyers and violators of peace and stability."

Jo also directed criticism towards the United States, accusing it of pushing the Korean Peninsula "to the brink of nuclear war" through the routine deployment of strategic assets in the region. Additionally, he targeted Japan, the current G7 presidency holder, for releasing "nuclear-contaminated water" into the Pacific Ocean, referring to Tokyo as a "troublemaker."

The strong rebuke from North Korea underscores the ongoing tensions and complex dynamics in the region, highlighting the deep-seated mistrust and animosity between North Korea and the G7 nations, particularly the United States and Japan.
