(MENAFN) In Aspen, Colorado, a bear is currently the subject of a search operation by wildlife officials after it reportedly broke into a hotel kitchen and confronted a security guard during an alarming incident that unfolded on a Monday night. The incident transpired at the St. Regis Aspen Resort, around 11 PM, when the hotel's security guard was prompted to investigate reports of a bear inside the establishment. According to a news release from Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) issued on Tuesday, it was during this investigation that the bear encounter occurred.
As the security guard ventured into the hotel's kitchen, he turned a corner and unintentionally surprised the bear, leading to a confrontation in which the bear swiped at the guard, knocking him to the ground. Fortunately, the security guard managed to escape the bear's grasp and promptly called 911 for assistance. First responders swiftly arrived on the scene and transported the injured guard to a hospital, where he received treatment for scratches sustained during the encounter.
Following the incident, wildlife officers from CPW arrived at the location shortly after midnight to initiate the search for the bear. An investigation revealed that the bear had gained access to the hotel through a series of doors near the courtyard. Armed with a description of the bear and specific identification markers, officers combed the vicinity in pursuit of the animal.
In the early hours of Tuesday, wildlife officers successfully located the bear near the hotel. However, due to concerns about public safety, they were unable to safely tranquilize and capture the animal at that time. The CPW reported their intention to return to the area later in the day to resume their efforts to locate and secure the bear.
