Katara Organised Over 600 Cultural Events So Far This Year: Report

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The Culture index recently released by Katara – the Culture Village Foundation indicated that 643 various cultural events were organised from January to the end of June of this year, which covered art exhibitions, heritage festivals, concerts, art workshops, symposiums, seminars, lectures, and others.
The Cultural Index showed that during such period, there were 37 art exhibitions featuring approximately 940 art pieces, showcasing the work of around 250 artists.
Further, Katara hosted 19 cultural and heritage festivals, including international events, as well as celebrations of public and local occasions.
It also hosted 10 music concerts, 46 workshops and courses comprising 86 sessions, alongside 44 gatherings and forums, and 46 seminars and lectures.
There were 70 religious activities held in the Katara Mosque and its halls, in addition to 37 events with competitions and award giving.
Katara's halls and theatres screened 36 Arab and foreign films in collaboration with different Arab and foreign embassies and institutions in the country.
The Al Al Thuraya Planetarium presented 91 shows and welcomed 7,382 visitors.
The Arab Postal Stamps Museum received around 18,890 visitors, including 332 students, and organised 14 activities during the past six months, including training workshops and competitions.
Meanwhile, the Traditional Dhows Museum received 5,441 visitors, including 544 students, and hosted seven different events.
In the first half of this year, Katara launched numerous initiatives aimed at supporting culture, literature, and art, and enhancing its presence in the cultural scene.
It honoured 17 entities and personalities, and printed 12 books through Katara Publishing House.
In addition, Katara held 35 sports activities, made 12 international participations, and organised 20 bazaars and eight auctions.
The Cultural Index recorded a total of 16,451,729 visitors, with 189,598 people frequenting Katara Beach.
Katara also welcomed about 3,216 students on school trips, and 260 school visits as part of the "Our Culture is a School" programme.
In the meantime, Katara received a significant number of tourist groups, totaling 45,100 tourists from around the world, and 418 visits from high-level officials and official delegations, contributed to the cultural exchange and relationships.
The Cultural Index indicated an increase in the number of Katara's followers on social media platforms.
Katara had around 426,000 followers on Twitter, 385,000 on Instagram, and about 214,000 on Facebook.
Likewise, the number of website visitors amounted around 123,165, with Katara related news bulletins being followed by almost 1.752mn people.
Katara's Cultural Index is issued regularly by the Cultural Village Foundation to cover the activities and events organised by Katara during a six-month period (half-yearly).
The index eventually culminates in the annual report, which assesses the degree of compliance of the events and activities with the featured schemes and the public level of interaction.
