Senior Israeli leaders urge Netanyahu to halt court overhaul

(MENAFN) Past significant Israeli representatives had already written to Premier Benjamin Netanyahu, pushing him to halt the contentious court reform, according to the local press on Saturday.

In their letter, the superannuated representatives pushed Netanyahu to stop all lawmaking actions connected to the court reform, referring to Netanyahu as "directly responsible for the grave damage done to the Israel Defense Forces and Israel's security."

"We place full responsibility on you for the damage done to the military and to Israel's security, and we expect you to take responsibility, stop the legislation, and start a process of negotiations (based) on broad consensus in the Israeli public and the Knesset (parliament),” it also declared.

They assumed that the lawmaking breaks Israel's 75-year-old communal agreement among the administration as well as thousands of the military’s backup leaders and soldiers.

Israel has already been in diplomatic unrest in latest months due to the prearranged court overhaul, with the opposition blaming the administration of a coup in support of executive authority.

The Israeli opposition blames Premier Netanyahu, who is prosecuted on corruption accusations, of using the court reform to protect himself from the law court. Netanyahu has disproved any connection among the planned modifications and his own case.
