Iran steps up efforts in producing nuclear weapons

(MENAFN) Iran is not now seeking nuclear weapons, according to a U.S. intelligence assessment, but it has stepped up efforts that may aid in their production.

In accordance with the Office of the Director of National Intelligence's estimate, that was made public on Monday, Iran has been trying to strengthen its ability to create an atomic weapon since the year 2020 but has so far been unable to do so.

even though many members of Congress and others have expressed skepticism about prior United States assessments of Iran's nuclear program, the findings were consistent with those.

Since taking office, the government of Joe Biden has defended its intention to re-enter the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a 2015 nuclear agreement with Iran. The suspension of its main negotiator, Rob Malley, that had been placed on administrative leave in June awaiting an inquiry into charges he handled secret material, has hindered that effort in recent months.
