Guardian: UK freezes Russian assets till compensation to Kiev is paid


(MENAFN) The Guardian announced on Friday that British representatives have ensured that Russian state possessions will not be reacquired even after the war in Ukraine is done, but only when Moscow pays compensations to Kiev.

In line with Russian approximations, over USD300 billion of the nation’s foreign currency assets have been suspended because of Western restrictions. On top of that, additional billions worth of possessions belonging to Russian residents and businesses have been detained.

Possessions and assets belonging to the Russian country, valued at €26 billion (USD32.1 billion), are at the meantime being detained in the United Kingdom, as reported by the Bank of Russia.
British MPs and Ukrainian representatives have been pushing for the suspended assets to be given to Kiev for rebuilding labors.

Based on the outlet, United Kingdom Foreign Secretary James Cleverly asserted last week that Russia’s sovereign possessions should remain restrained until the country approve to pay reimbursement to Ukraine.
