Kash Patel Opposes Leniency For Those Who Attack Cops Days After Donald Trump Pardons US Capitol Rioters

(MENAFN- Live Mint) Days after Donald trump issued sweeping pardons to people charged in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol, his pick for federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Kash Patel reiterated his stance on violence relating to law enforcement officers and said he does“not agree” with the commutation of the sentence of anyone who commits such a crime.

“I have always rejected any violence against law enforcement,” Kash Patel told the Senate Judiciary Committee.“I do not agree with the commutation of any sentence of any individual that committed violence against law enforcement.”

Donald Trump's clemency extended to nearly all 1,600 individuals charged in the attack, including hundreds convicted of assaulting law enforcement.

Kash Patel, who would lead one of the largest US law enforcement agencies as FBI director, did not directly criticise the pardons issued by Donald Trump but did say that he“does not agree” with any leniency. Emphasising that such instances cannot be tolerated, Kash Patel said,“For January 6, I have repeatedly, publicly and privately said that there can never be a tolerance for violence against law enforcement. And anyone that commits an act of violence against law enforcement should be investigated, prosecuted and imprisoned.”

Speaking on corruption, the FBI director nominee said,“On January 6, I have said the same thing on acts against law enforcement... If there is any corruption, I have been the first to call it out and I will continue to call out corruption in governemnt service becuse it is a privilege to serve this nation.”

“If confirmed as the next FBI director, I will remain focused on the FBI's core mission that is to investigate fully wherever there is a constitutional, factual basis to do so,” he said.
