US And Qatari Foreign Ministers Discuss Afghanistan


(MENAFN- Khaama Press) Qatar's foreign minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani and the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken discussed Afghanistan in a telephone conversation on Saturday.

Qatar's foreign ministry in a statement on Saturday, May 13, said,“Bilateral relations between the countries, the latest development in Afghanistan and the recent escalations in the Palestinian territories was discussed.”

Meanwhile, the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken in a tweet said about the telephonic conversation with his Qatari counterpart.

Without pointing out Afghanistan, Blinken thanked the constructive efforts the Qatari government is playing an effective role in restoring peace and stability in the region.

“Discussing the recent escalations in Ghaza and Israel with the Qatari foreign minister was a key part of the conversation,” Blinken said.

On Friday, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani accompanied by a high-level delegation visited Afghanistan and met with some senior Taliban authorities in Southern Kandahar province.

During the visit with the Taliban officials, pathways to support the people of Afghanistan and minimize the impacts of the existing crisis in the areas of economy and humanitarian aid were discussed, the Qatari foreign ministry stated.

Meanwhile, the chief spokesperson of the Taliban Zabihullah Mujahid has said that Qatar's high-level delegation in a meeting with Mohammad Hasan Akhund pledged to strengthen ties with Afghanistan and cooperate in education, health and economic issues.
