Mixed Performance in Asian Stock Markets


(MENAFN) Major Asian stock markets displayed a mixed performance on Tuesday, reflecting varied trends across the region. The Asia Dow, comprising leading companies in the area, experienced a modest increase of 0.55 percent to reach 3,422.14 points by 1053GMT.

Tokyo's NIKKEI 225 index advanced by 0.73 percent, closing at 29,842.99 points. Conversely, the Shanghai stock exchange in China encountered a decline of 0.6 percent, settling at 3,290.99 points. China's industrial production demonstrated improvement, rising by 5.6 percent in April, as reported in fresh data. Retail sales in China also observed growth, surging by 18.4 percent on a year-on-year basis.

The Hang Seng index, which serves as the benchmark for blue-chip stocks traded on the Hong Kong exchange, experienced a marginal increase of 0.04 percent to reach 19,978.25 points.

Meanwhile, the Sensex index in India faced a decline of 0.66 percent, closing at 61,932.47 points. Similarly, the Singapore index witnessed a marginal dip of 0.02 percent, ending the day at 3,214.04 points.

These mixed market movements reflect the diverse economic landscapes and investor sentiments in different Asian countries. While some markets saw positive gains, concerns regarding economic activity emerged in China, despite the improvements in industrial production and retail sales figures. The overall performance of Asian stock markets remains subject to various factors such as economic indicators, geopolitical developments, and investor confidence.
