Transit of Goods through Iran Increases by 2.2 Percent in 1401

(MENAFN) According to Ruhollah Latifi, the spokesman of Trade Development Committee of the Iranian House of Industry, Mining, and Trade, the transit of goods through Iran increased by 2.2 percent in the past Iranian calendar year 1401 (ended on March 20). Latifi, who is also the former spokesman of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), stated that 12.912 million tons of commodities were transited via the country in the previous year.

Deputy transport Minister Shahriyar Afandizadeh announced earlier this month that Iran registered a new record high with the transit of 8.3 million tons of non-oil goods in 1401. He explained that there was a 10.7 percent growth in the transit of non-oil goods in 1401 compared to the previous year's transit of 7.5 million tons.

Afandizadeh highlighted the significant developments and achievements in the strategic and operational areas of the country's transit in 1401. He stated that the definitive effects of these developments and achievements would be seen gradually and steadily on the growth of transit from the country in 1402 and the coming years.

The deputy transport minister also explained that, in line with the activation and development of the North-South International Transport Corridor, high-ranking officials of Iran, Russia, and Azerbaijan met in Baku in September of last year. The officials aimed to achieve the transit of 15 million tons of goods through this corridor by 2030 and reached agreements on strengthening cooperation among the three countries in joint investment and financing, completing and developing key infrastructures and their exploitation, especially the construction of the Rasht-Astara railway line, facilitating cross-border traffic of goods, and increasing the quality and quantity of this traffic. The implementation of these agreements is currently being followed up.
