Turkish President Erdogan Unveils Election Manifesto Focused on Earthquake Relief

(MENAFN) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has announced the Justice and Development (AK) Party's manifesto ahead of the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections on May 14. In a speech delivered in the capital city of Ankara, Erdogan, who also serves as the chairman of the AK Party, unveiled a 23-point election manifesto that highlights the need to address the aftermath of the Feb. 6 earthquakes that devastated southern Türkiye.
Erdogan emphasized the importance of unity and brotherhood in the face of tragedy, stating that "every attack, every disaster, every pain we experience... shows that we need to tighten our unity, protect our unity more, and strengthen our brotherhood even more." He pledged to take steps to heal the wounds of the earthquake victims and rebuild the affected cities across 11 provinces.
To accomplish this, Erdogan announced plans to build a total of 650,000 new houses, with 319,000 to be delivered within one year. He vowed to completely heal the wounds caused by the disaster and erase its traces from the affected regions. The tragedy claimed more than 50,000 lives, making it one of the deadliest earthquakes in modern history.
Erdogan also emphasized the need to raise Türkiye's political and economic strength to avoid falling back into "the pit of political and economic bondage." He pledged to increase national resilience through a "national risk shield model," which would transform all 81 provinces into disaster-resilient cities.
The AK Party's election manifesto underscores the importance of addressing the immediate needs of the earthquake victims while also focusing on longer-term goals of national resilience and strength. Erdogan's vision for a stronger, more united Türkiye resonates with many voters, who are looking for leadership and stability in a time of uncertainty and crisis.
