Iran's Sarkhosh Defeats Leong To Successfully Defend Asian Snooker Championship Title

Doha: Iran's Amir Sarkhosh successfully defended his Asian Snooker Championship title after defeating Thor Chuan Leong of Malaysia 5-1 in the best of nine-frames final held on Thursday at the QBSF Academy in Doha.

A total of 52 players from 26 Asian countries participated in the QNB Asian Snooker Championship's Men category which started on 11th March.

Being the defending champion, Amir was placed in Group A where he defeated Yazan Alhadad (Syria) 4-0, Tamer Elmasri (Jordan) 4-1 and Eissa Ali Al Hashmi (UAE) 4-2 to top the group and advanced to the knockout stage.

From the knockouts, Amir reached the medals round of last-four by defeaing Saleh Mohammed of Afghanistan 4-2 with some sparkling breaks of 73, 78 and 72 in first three frames.

Against Fung Kwok Wai of Hong Kong in the next match, Amir scored two breaks of 67 and 54 in first frame and then advanced towards the victory of 4-2 to reach medals round.

The semi-final match was totally one-sided where Amir defeated his year's final match opponent Ishpreet Singh of India 5-0. He was a match away from retaining his Asian Snooker title and for that he met Thor Chuan Leong of Malaysia today in the Best of 9 frames final.

Amir took some extra time for winning the first frame but after that he speed up to win next three frames with a well crafted break of 97 in third frame.

Although Thor managed to win fifth frame but not enough to stop the storm named Amir as in the next frame Amir potted with precision to oust Thor from the frame and claimed 5-1 victory to retain the Asian Snooker title one more time.

Amir received the winners' trophy from ACBS President Abu Salem Al Nuaimi at the presentation ceremony.
