QBA Members Invited To Invest In Tajikistan

Doha: The Qatari Businessmen Association met with the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan, H E Zavqi Zavqizoda, in the presence of His Excellency the Ambassador of Tajikistan to Doha, Khosrow Sahibzadeh.

From QBA the meeting was attended by sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, QBA Chairman, and QBA members Sheikh Faisal bin Fahad Al Thani and Mr. Ihsan Al-Khiyami, in addition to Mrs. Sarah Abdullah, Deputy General Manager.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the need to enhance trade and investment cooperation between the two countries, as the Tajik minister invited the chairman and members of the Qatari Businessmen Association to visit his country and study the potential investment opportunities in the fields of hydroelectric energy, agriculture, textiles, tourism and clean energy.

At the beginning of the meeting, Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, QBA Chairman welcomed the Tajik delegation, highlighting that Qatar is working hard to enhance joint cooperation between the two countries, adding that the Qatari private sector invests in different sectors internationally, thanks to the incentives and legislation provided by those countries.

Minister Zavqizoda said that Qatar is developing significantly and remarkably, expressing his admiration for the infrastructure in Qatar.

The Minister of Economic Development also gave an explanation about the most important economic sectors in his country, as he indicated that the energy sector is important, especially clean and green energy, as work is being done to increase electricity production with the support of the World Bank, to provide the necessary funds, which are estimated at about one billion dollars.

He also presented his country's agricultural capabilities, as Tajikistan has great potential of fertile lands, fresh water, and organic agricultural products, through which it is possible to invest in projects related to the food industry and build centers for collecting & packaging agricultural crops, and then exporting them to Qatar and other regions of the world.

The minister also said that his country is one of the most important producers of cotton, which supports the government directions towards reviving its textile factories, in addition to providing free zones to attract investors.

He also called on QBA Members to invest in the field of tourism, as mega projects will be presented in this field, especially as they are linked to the hunting seasons of rare birds.

For his part, Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani expressed his readiness to take a business delegation to Tajikistan after the holy month of Ramadan, where real projects will be explored and studied, mentioning the possibility of establishing a mutual investment fund that could study and explore investments in the Tajik market.
