Qatar Participates In 98Th Standing Committee For Arab Media

Doha: The State of Qatar represented by Qatar Media Corporation is participating in the work of the 98th meeting of the Standing Committee for Arab Media, and the 24th meeting of the permanent expert follow-up group on the role of media in confronting terrorism, taking place in the State of Kuwait, under the theme of climate change and the future.

The Arab League stated in a statement today that both meetings will be held in preparation for the 16th regular session of the Arab Information Ministers Council Executive Office, under the presidency of the Republic of Iraq, kicking off on March 15, with the participation of Arab information ministers, and those who take their place in the member states of the Executive Office.

Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Media and Communication Sector of the Arab League Ambassador Ahmed Rashid Khattabi stated that the two meetings fall within the scope of following up on the implementation of the decisions issued by the 52nd regular session of the Council of Arab Information Ministers, held in Cairo last September, adding more vitality and interaction in support of Arab causes, starting with the legitimate Palestinian cause.

Khattabi pointed out that both meetings serve as an opportunity to carry on the discussion on the most effective mechanisms to activate the media action plan and update the joint Arab media strategy to combat terrorism.

He added that the items on the agenda include electronic media and countering terrorism and extremism, major international tech companies, in addition to drafting guiding Arab legislation to regulate social media, as well as user protection against inappropriate contents' ethical and legal abuse, in addition to the introduction of a Media education subject to Arab countries' educational curricula.

The Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Media and Communication Sector of the Arab League concluded that the two meetings will discuss several organizational topics, including the 2023 Arab Media Excellence Award allocated for a topic dealing with environmental media, which will be of financial value for the first time.
