Doha: The ISSF World Cup Shotgun 2023 will commence today at the Lusail Shooting Range and continue until March 12 with the participation of 465 male and female shooters, representing 63 countries, including 30 Olympic and world champions.
The tournament begins with official training for the men's and women's skeet competition, where the participants for the men's and women's categories will compete the day after tomorrow in 75-rounds of shooting.
Hosts Qatar will feature 10 shooters with 5 taking part in the trap competition and 5 in skeet contests. The tournament will also witness the participation of 8 referees from Qatar and 7 from Germany, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Kuwait, all of whom have the international badges.
Mishaal Ibrahim Al Nasr, President of the Qatar Shooting and Archery Association (QSAA), and Executive Director General of the Championship, said the iconic Lusail Shooting Range is ready to host the event, noting that international shooting stars continue to flock to Qatar to participate in this event.
“We thank the Qatar Olympic Committee for its unlimited support and its great keenness to make the tournament a success, which is one of the important events on its agenda, as well as on the agenda of the International Shooting Federation,” Al Nasr said.
Regarding the expected technical level of the championship, Al Nasr said:“The participation of 465 male and female shooters, including 30 world and Olympic champions, in the competitions, clearly underlines that this championship will witness fierce battles among the participants. We wish success to all participants.”
He added:“We are looking forward to Qatari shooters appearing in the best possible way and that they do well on home soil.”
Jassim Shaheen Al Sulaiti, Deputy Director of the Championship, confirmed that all arrangements are place for the start of the championship.
Al Sulaiti said in a statement:“As for the Qatari participation in the World Cup, we have Reem Al Sharshani, Rashid Saleh Al Athba, Abdulaziz Al Attiyah, Kholoud Al Khalaf, Saeed Abu Sharb in the mix. We will shooters in the skeet and trap competitions.”
Most of the shooters who participated in the Qatar Open Championship will participate this week, he said.
For his part, Abdullah Ali Al Mutawa Al Hammadi, Chairman of the Technical Committee of the championship, said:“Eight referees from Qatar will participate in the championship. We also have referees from Germany, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Croatia.”
