Islamic Relief Joins Rescue, Relief Teams in Southern Türkiye, Working Tirelessly Despite Harsh Conditions

(MENAFN) Despite the harsh conditions and challenges they are facing, all rescue and relief teams on the ground in southern Türkiye are working tirelessly to help the victims of last week's devastating earthquakes, according to a British volunteer who is part of the relief efforts. The volunteer, who is with the UK-based aid group Islamic Relief, stated that the situation is the worst he has ever seen.

Islamic Relief, one of the leading Islamic charities, has been on the ground in both Syria and Türkiye since the onset of the earthquakes, providing relief efforts to those in need. The organization has dispatched 160 staff to assist in the search and rescue operations. Salah Aboulgasem, who has been with Islamic Relief for 16 years, is currently working in Kilis, one of the 10 provinces that were hit the hardest by the magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 earthquakes. He arrived in Türkiye on Monday to participate in the humanitarian mission.

Despite the difficult conditions and freezing winter cold, Aboulgasem indicated that all teams on the ground are working tirelessly, with some working 20-, 21-, and even 22-hour days. He praised the people for doing as much as they can and highlighted the dedicated efforts of the rescue and relief teams who are working around the clock.

Speaking to Anadolu, Aboulgasem discussed the relief efforts underway at a large event hall, which is currently being used to shelter the quake victims. He explained that his team is working to assess the needs of the families who have sought refuge at the center, which includes those from Gaziantep, Adiyaman, and Kahramanmaras provinces. The volunteers are registering, assessing, and speaking with the families to better understand their needs so that they can provide the necessary support to them.

Aboulgasem emphasized that aid is always dictated by the needs of the people, and they are assessing how to help the families in the medium and long term. The needs of the people are always the driving force behind the aid they provide. The challenges and the situation on the ground are taken into account when deciding how to operate and provide assistance. The relief efforts of organizations like Islamic Relief, which are grounded in the needs and challenges of the people affected by the earthquakes, are crucial in helping those who have been affected by the disaster.
