(MENAFN) The Turkish foreign Minister stated on Sunday that Turkey and Greece shouldn't wait for another earthquake to repair their differences.
Mevlut Cavusoglu thanked Greece for its assistance following earlier this week's terrible earthquakes while speaking with reporters beside his Greek counterpart Nikos Dendias in the earthquake-stricken Hatay province in southern Turkey.
Nikos Dendias' presence among us today, according to Cavusoglu, "shows the solidarity of the Greek people with Türkiye and the Turkish country." "During such difficult times, good neighborly interactions are seen."
He mentioned the 1999 Marmara earthquake in Turkey and claimed that barely one month after Turkey, Greece too experienced earthquakes.
In reference to a report from the news publication Time at the time, Cavusoglu said, "At that time, first Greece raced to help us, then Türkiye hurried to help Greece.
As a regular Turkish citizen, Cavusoglu wrote a letter to Time in response to the article on Turkish-Greek relations. He had added, "Solidarity in tense relationships is necessary, but we must not wait for another earthquake to develop relations.
"I then spoke as a regular citizen of Turkey. I concur today in my capacity as Turkey's Minister of Foreign Affairs "He concurred.
Cavusoglu advocated "sincere" conversation to resolve disagreements.
Additionally, the Turkish foreign minister thanked Dendias, his administration, and the entire Greek people for their "support rendered during such trying circumstances."
