Qatar Radio Programmes Reflect Country's Approach To Promoting Peace, Dialogue

Doha: Qatar radio has demonstrated through its programmes the country's tangible keenness to promote peace and understanding through effective dialogue between the various civilizations and cultures of the world.

On the occasion of World Radio Day, which falls on February 13 every year, the general programme observer at Qatar Radio Jaber Mohammed Al Sorour, in an exclusive statements to QNA, said that the radio reflects the efforts of Qatar to spread and promote the values of tolerance and cooperation between religions and cultures.

He said that it is also highlighting some national institutions concerned with spreading a culture of peace, accepting tolerance, confronting extremism, and rejecting violence at the national, regional and international levels, such as the Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue and the Hamad bin Khalifa Civilization Center in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Al Sorour added that Qatar Radio, through its news and programs, is working to highlight the important role that Qatar believes in sport in promoting the values of tolerance, cooperation and peace.

He explained that the Radio participates with the world in celebrating World Radio Day, and seeks to continue and strengthen its active Arab and international presence on this international day launched by Unesco on February 13 every year, pointing out that the radio is interested in introducing this occasion to the audience of listeners through quick radio productions that would introduce the nature of this celebration.

Al Sorour said that the radio annually produces a special programme for the World Radio Day that deals with the relevant slogan for the day which is“Radio & Peace” this year, through Qatar Radio documentaries, which will document the concept of the slogan and the radio's contribution to correcting concepts and laying the foundations of civilized societal thought.

He added that, as part of the usual radio programme, an episode of“Behind the Scenes” was devoted to talking about World Radio Day with its slogan for the year 2023“Radio and Peace”, in addition to producing a special talk show entitled“Radio between Peace and Permanence”.

Kholoud Al Hamidi, the observer of the Urdu Radio, said that the Urdu Radio is participating in the celebration of the World Radio Day, as the radio is sending a group of messages urging peace, especially with the presence of a large segment of the audience listening to this radio from the Urdu speakers, some of whom are from countries suffering from conflicts, or problems, and therefore the radio offer programs that promote the concept of peace.

She added that we are trying to convey Qatar's voice to these listeners and highlight the role of Qatar in promoting peace, resolving global issues related to peace and hosting many conferences calling for peace.

Associate Professor in the Department of Mass Communication at Qatar University, Dr. Kamal Hamido, stressed the importance of the contribution of radio stations, especially international radios, to spreading the language of peace and understanding between peoples, as expected, by virtue of international charters and covenants, to contribute to spreading the language of tolerance and acceptance of the other, spreading the values of democracy and preserving freedoms in various societies.

Dr. Hamido said that local radio channels can also contribute to spreading tolerance and understanding and introducing the culture of the other within multiple societies.
