Gun Attack Leaves 2 Policemen Dead In N. Pakistan


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ISLAMABAD, Jan 21 (KUNA) -- At least two policemen lost their lives and another was injuried in a militant attack on a security check post in Pakistan's northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province on Saturday.
Sohail Khalid, a senior District Police Office, said that militants on a motorbike opened fire on the check post in Dheri Zadad area of the Charsadda district in KP bordering Afghanistan.
Three policemen were injured and two of them succumbed to their injuries later on.
The official said one 'terrorist' was injured in retaliatory firing by the police but his accomplices managed to take him away, adding that police have launched a search operation in the area to arrest the assailants.
The banned outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack.
Earlier last week, three policemen including a senior police official were killed in a militant attack on the Sarband Police Station in Peshawar, the provincial capital of KP. (end)
