CAIRO, Jan 21 (KUNA) -- The Babylon Fortress is an Ancient Roman fortress, built around 30 BC with the arrival of emperor Augustus in Al-Fustat (old Egypt south of the capital, the main passageway for the Arabs' conquerors.
The fortress was the front defense line in the east. The Arab leader, Amr bin Al-Ass, besieged the location for seven months, in the year 641, when the Arab armies marched toward North Africa. (end) aff.rk
