French star Matuidi announces his retirement from football at age 35


(MENAFN) Blaise Matuidi, a previous Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus player, announced his retirement from football on Friday, at the age of 35.

"Football, you gave me so much, but the time has come to say stop. I accomplished my dreams as a child, my dreams as a man. It is with a tight throat but with pride that I turn this page today. THANK YOU," the French-born player published on twitter.

FIFA, world football's governing body, send his appraisals to Matuidi saying all the best for his retirement, with a statement: "Congratulations on an amazing career and wish you the best in retirement @MATUIDIBlaise."

Matuidi achieved five French Ligue 1 titles with PSG, three Serie A cups with Juventus, and was a key player for France in their clinch for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

In addition to Saint-Etienne, Paris Saint-Germain, and Juventus, Matuidi played games for the US’ Inter Miami CF.

The midfielder contributed in nine goals in 84 games for Les Bleus and in 2015 was awarded French Footballer of the Year.
