Ukrainian journalists appeal to authorities

(MENAFN) A number of Ukrainian journalists and media sites have sent an open letter to the country's senior leaders, urging them to reconsider a recent decision to deprive journalists of accreditation for working in Kherson.

Kiev officials have previously accused journalists, notably those working for CNN and Sky News, of reporting without permission from Ukrainian military commanders from the newly retaken city of Kherson.

The announcement, that was launched on Monday on the NGO Detector Media website, blamed the situation on the “inefficiency and unprofessionalism of the communication structures of the Ministry of Defense.”

Their hypothetical “reluctance to create equal and transparent rules” has caused a “communication crisis,” the open letter reads.

The letter was written to President Vladimir Zelensky, the commander-in-chief of Ukraine's Armed Forces, Valery Zaluzhny, and Defense Minister Alexey Reznikov.

The journalists contended that the reports were really good to the country's image.

“They witnessed the joy with which the people of Kherson met the Ukrainian army, thereby refuting the lies of Russian propaganda,” the announcement stated.
