Natasa Pirc Musar to be 1st woman leader in Slovenia


(MENAFN) Natasa Pirc Musar earned the second round of Slovenia's high-level vote Sunday and will become the nation's first woman leader, based on preliminary results.

The 54-year-old attorney and previous TV broadcaster got 53.98 percent of the vote, while her competitor, Anze Logar, got 46.02 percent with 92.65 percent of the votes counted.

"I will proudly enter the presidential palace with the trust you have given me. I will do my best to truly be everyone's president. I will fight for fundamental human rights, constitutional rights and democracy. I will do my best to unite all of us in politics on strategic issues," on the words of Musar.

Outgoing President Borut Pahor commended Musar and invited her to the Presidential Palace for a chat on Tuesday.

The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, also commended Musar for her conquest.

''As you take on this important role, I look forward to working closely with you to build on the unwavering Kosovo-Slovenia partnership, founded on our shared democratic values,'' Osmani added.
