Sweden charges two Iranian brothers convicted for spying for Russia

(MENAFN) Two Iranian-born brothers were convicted in Sweden with serious espionage for reportedly spying for Russia for nearly 10 years, prosecutors stated on Friday. One of them men operated for Sweden’s domestic intelligence agency.

governments acknowledged them as Peyman Kia, 42-years-old, as well as Payam Kia, 35-years-old. One of the men was also charged for the reported gross unauthorized leaking of secret date. It wasn’t instantly known which of the two brothers it was.

“It has been a complex investigation concerning a crime that is very difficult to investigate and the suspicion concerns very serious criminality directed against Sweden’s intelligence and security system,” as stated by National Security Unit chief prosecutor Per Lindqvist.

“The information that has been obtained, transmitted and divulged could, by the fact that if it comes into the hands of a foreign power, result in detriment to Sweden’s security,” Lindqvist mentioned in an announcement.
