Saudi Arabia's Border Guards Rescue Crew Of Panamanian Ship As Caught On Fire In Red Sea


(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) Jizan, Oct 7, 2022, SPA -- The Border Guards' ship (Rafha) has, in cooperation with a foreign ship, managed to rescue the crew of a commercial container tanker, flying the flag of the Republic of Panama, that had suffered a fire accident while sailing in the Red Sea waters 123 nautical miles northwest of Jizan port.
The official spokesperson for the Border Guards, Colonel Misfir Al-Qarini, explained that within the framework of the implementation of the tasks of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia of the International Convention on Maritime Search and Rescue (1979), and in continuation of the humanitarian tasks provided by the Border Guards in the field of search and rescue, Jeddah Search and Rescue Coordination Center (JMRCC) has received a ship distress call“MAYDAY' on the exposure of the tanker to a fire, it determined its location, and passed the distress call to the command and control center in Jazan region and to a number of relevant authorities to provide the necessary support.
Colonel Al-Qarini also confirmed that the crew of the ship, consisting of (25) sailors of multiple nationalities, was evacuated to the port of Jizan, and they were received by a number of medical teams from the border guards, health affairs, the Red Crescent, civil defense and passports in the region, and they are in good health, and they were transferred to their place of residence while taking the proper procedures.
