Four deaths in Burkina Faso over militant invasion

(MENAFN) More than two militaries and two civilian auxiliaries passed away in a “terrorist” invasion on a patrol in eastern Burkina Faso, the army stated on Sunday.

A military unit and VDP volunteer auxiliaries were trapped on Saturday between Sakoani and Sampieri in Tapoa province, neighboring Niger and Benin, according to an army declaration.

“The fighting unfortunately cost the lives of two soldiers and two VDP,” it also read.

On the other hand, a security source declared the death toll was four militaries and two volunteers.

A VDP official confirmed two deceased from the volunteer ranks with “some still missing.”

In agreement with another security source, the militants suffered losses as well, without giving a number for the dead.

Lt. Col. Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba took power in a January overthrow, exiling Burkina’s elected president and vowing to restraint in the activists.
