Death Toll Of A Capsized Boat Boarding Immigration Seekers Hits 73 -- Syria


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) AMMAN, Sept 23 (KUNA) -- Death toll of a boat that had gone adrift after sailing from northern Lebanon and capsized off the Syrian coast has climbed to 71, the official Syrian news agency Sana said on Friday.
Sana quoted Syrian Minister of health Hassan Al-Ghabbash as saying number of the deaths reached 73 indicating that the count was not final, adding that 20 survivors were under treatment at Bassel Hospital in the northern Syrian city Tartous.
Earlier, Samer Qobrosli, the director general of sea ports, said 31 dead bodies were found at several location off Tartous. Some corpses reached the beaches while others were salvaged from deep locations at the sea (end)
