Iran FM: Yemen's stability, security have direct impact on Persian Gulf, West Asia's security

(MENAFN) According to Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the foreign Minister of Iran, the stability and security of war-torn Yemen directly affect those of the rest of West Asia and the Persian Gulf.

The comments were made by Amir-Abdollahian during a meeting with UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg on Sunday in Tehran.

Iran's senior ambassador stressed during the discussion that Yemen's citizens should decide the country's future.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran wants peace, stability and security for the great nation of Yemen and believes that stability and security of this country have a direct impact on stability and security of the region and the Persian Gulf,” he stated.

The Saudi-led coalition's blockade of the war-torn nation must be completely lifted in order for the status quo, which has been in place since the formation of a ceasefire in April, according to Iran's foreign minister.

"No one can remain indifferent to the fate of 20 million Yemeni women, children and men, who are living in difficult conditions [trying] to meet basic needs such as medicine, food and water," Amir-Abdollahian asserted.

He commended the UN envoy's efforts to bring about peace in Yemen but denounced acts of sabotage that prevented the execution of the cease-fire agreement, highlighting the necessity of ending the strict Saudi-led blockade on the impoverished nation.
