Macron states that Kiev must not submit

(MENAFN) French President Emmanuel macron emphasized the importance of Ukraine standing firm against Russian demands for lasting peace during the "Summit on Peace in Ukraine" held in Switzerland on Saturday. The summit, which excluded Moscow, aimed to gather support from international allies to resolve the ongoing conflict in the former Soviet republic.

Macron asserted that any peace agreement must not entail Ukrainian capitulation but should instead focus on restoring Ukraine's Sovereignty and upholding international norms. He characterized the situation as one with clear aggressors and victims, underscoring the need for a resolution that respects Ukraine's territorial integrity.

Amid reports of Russian military gains against Ukrainian forces, Macron, alongside other Western leaders, reiterated their commitment to supporting Ukraine with additional weaponry and economic aid. He emphasized the necessity of preventing a Russian victory, proposing deeper NATO involvement through military trainers and potentially even military deployments by member states.

The talks occurred against a backdrop of escalating tensions and humanitarian concerns as casualties mount on both sides. While Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed significant Ukrainian troop losses, Western leaders like Macron remain steadfast in their support for Ukraine's defense efforts, pledging sustained assistance until a durable peace is achieved.
