Europe advocates energy conservation amid of gas shortage

(MENAFN) Following economic penalties on Moscow as a result of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the European Union (EU) is putting energy efficiency at the forefront of efforts to reduce the demand for gas.

This choice was made in response to the energy giant Gazprom's announcement on Monday that it is going to decrease gas flow through Nord Stream 1, one of the key pipelines for the delivery of Russian gas to Europe.

The restricted gas flow on the pipeline that is essential for the transit of Russian gas to Europe via Germany was caused, according to the corporation, by maintenance on a major Siemens turbine engine at the Portovaya compressor station.

The corporation announced that owing to turbine issues, exports via the pipeline that transports 167 million cubic meters of gas per day is going to be reduced from the previous week's range of 40 percent to 20 percent.
