Anura Kumara Ready To Withdraw From Presidential Polls

National Peoples Power (NPP) Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake says he is ready to withdraw from the presidential polls if some key conditions are met.

He offered to step down after meeting representatives of the protesters at Galle Face.

Dissanayake said that if candidates come forward to contest for the post of President and Prime Minister with only a short term goal in mind then he is prepared to withdraw form the race.

He said that the NPP is also prepared to be part of an all-party Government under such a temporary leadership.

Acting President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and former Minister Dullas Alahapperuma are the others contesting the election.

Nominations will be called on the 19th Tuesday and subsequently, a member of parliament will be elected for the presidency after the election held in Parliament on the 20th, Wednesday. (Colombo Gazette)
