China urges US to address Iran's genuine concerns in sanctions-reduction discussions

(MENAFN) The Chinese Foreign Ministry has urged the US to address Iran's genuine concerns in discussions to lift sanctions on the Islamic Republic.

In response to the fresh meetings, which concluded in the Qatari capital on Wednesday, ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said all parties engaged in the talks should be mindful of their remarks and actions, as well as the influence on the development of the negotiations.

“The US is responsible for the current hiatus in Iran’s nuclear case, must fulfill its obligations to return to the nuclear agreement, respond to Iran's legitimate concerns and take measures to resume negotiations as early as possible to help things move forward,” he stated.

Zhao emphasized that dialogue is the only feasible option for resolving the Iranian nuclear problem.

“Protecting these negotiations serves the common interest of the international community ... China has always been committed to a political settlement of this issue, and we will continue our constructive participation in the negotiations until they return to the normal track,” he also highlighted.

The Doha discussions came after multiple rounds of talks in Vienna, Austria, since April of last year.
