Aqaba, June 28 (Petra) -- Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh on Tuesday said that normalcy has been restored in the Red Sea city of Aqaba and that yesterday's chlorine gas leak incident, which resulted in 13 fatalities and over 300 injuries, has been completely contained.
The Prime Minister declared that the port and navigation are operating normally and that there are no risks from chlorine gas concentrations while giving a tour of the accident site, which was brought on by the fall of a chlorine gas cylinder while it was being loaded onto an anchored ship.
'Life in Aqaba is completely safe. The competent authorities have confirmed that there are no gas concentrations in the air. We're standing here at the scene of the accident this morning without any safety precautions or even masks,' the premier said.
The Prime Minister stated that he has tasked the Minister of Interior with leading an investigation into the incident and ensuring that it does not happen again.
