BNI Qatar Honours 88 Individuals At Its Business Awards

Doha: Business Network International (BNI) Qatar Chapter celebrated on Thursday its eighth anniversary in the country and Annual Business Awards honouring 88 individuals from their organisation who made exemplary performance for the past year.

Among the winners were: Member of the year - Aji Kuriakose; Chapter of the Year - BNI Phoenix; Maximum Visitors - Ayman Al Qudwa and Khaled Nassar; Top performers of 12 months - Shabeer Mohammed and Ayman Al Qudwa; and Top Business Generator - Peroz Periera.

BNI, registered under Qatar Financial Centre, has five chapters in the country, with 158 members. Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the event, BNI Qatar Executive Director P Mohamed Shabeeb revealed that the amount of business done for the last year globally reached US$19.25bn, and in Qatar alone – QR125m.“This is through referrals, they refer business then they get business, they register and that's what we track.”

When asked on what kind of businesses its members are engaging, he said:“Any categories, we have 83 different verticals in Qatar, we touch every segment in the country.”

The total amount of business done by BNI since 2014 reached QR588.88m, of which during the pandemic, QR213m had been generated, encompassing 35 percent of the total for the eight-year period. When asked on the type of businesses that are in-demand in Qatar, Shabeeb said:“it's predominantly construction, but we also see services especially on Human Resources, Public Relations, and an uptake on Hospitality, Travel, Medical, and Education.”

“In BNI, it's not only the membership and you come for the meeting, we give you personality development trainings, marketing-development trainings, knowledge-based access to BNI business-build up. We keep on learning,” he explained.

BNI Member, who is also part of the Regional DnA Team, and Falcon Travel Manager, Ayman Al Qudwa said since he became a BNI member, his network increased.“We are growing locally, regionally and globally because of BNI. Today, I can proudly say that we are not only a local travel agency, but we are a global travel agency with branches from 77 countries.” Al Qudwa bagged at least two awards this year. 

Within three years, Falcon Travel has closed deals of almost QR5m for one chapter alone. With the COVID-19 pandemic affecting businesses for the past two years, Al Qudwa said:“The best benefit for me in BNI, everybody was talking about surviving, BNI teaches us how to thrive during the pandemic, and that's today why we exist, and why we are growing and doing very good results in all directions. The past two years were amazing.”

The Annual Business Award was attended by representatives from the Indian and Italian embassies in Qatar, and various organisations across the country. A special presentation by BNI National Director Bijay Shah was conducted during the event which was held at Holiday Inn – The Business Park.
