KABUL (Pajhwok): The Supreme Court on Afghanistan on Saturday announced that the Shawwal moon has been in various provinces of the country, hence Eidul Fitr will be celebrated on Sunday, May 1.
A spokesman for the caretaker government, Zabihullah Mujahid, wrote on his twitter account late last night that the Supreme Court had declared Eid on Sunday.
Meanwhile, a statement issued by the Supreme Court said that 27 people in Farah, Ghazni, Kandahar and Ghor provinces had seen the crescent and presented evidence to the relevant courts.
Earlier, Saudi Arabia's Supreme Court ruled that Shawwal moon has not been sighted in any part of the country and that Eid would be celebrated on Monday.
The United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Yemen, Sudan, Jordan and a number of other Islamic countries will also celebrate the first day of Eid on Monday.
