BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 1. Turkey has a
positive attitude towards the initiative to become a guarantor of
Ukraine's security, Spokesman for the Turkish president Ibrahim
Kalin said in an interview with TRT Haber, Trend reports.
'At the moment we are not a guarantor, but we are positive about
this initiative. Turkey is one of the few countries that both
Ukraine and Russia trust. In this sense, Turkey is the most
important country that has recently come to the fore. We were in
contact with the negotiating delegations before their arrival in
Istanbul,' he said.
Kalin noted that, Turkey's Western friends also understand the
country's balanced position.
'If everyone burns bridges with Russia, then who will talk to
her? The UN has not adopted any resolutions on sanctions. From the
point of view of maintaining the communication channel, it was
important that Turkey did not impose sanctions,' he noted.
According to him, Turkey's main goal is to help end the Ukraine
conflict.
'We have protected the straits and the Black Sea from military
operations. Everyone appreciates Turkey's contribution,' he
said.
Speaking about the energy security of Europe, he stressed that
this will be one of the most important issues in the coming
decades.
