The Convoy —a B2B marketplace that combines the buying power of small and independent businesses to help them save on the tools, services and products they use every day—has announced two major additions to its founding team: Sayed Saber & Melanie Deziel.

Sayed Saber, the former Head of Solutions Partnerships at Square, has come onboard as a Co-Founder and VP of Sales & Partnerships, forging relationships with larger companies who offer exclusive discounts to The Convoy's members in exchange for reaching a rich audience of small and independent businesses.

Prior to his work on partnerships at Square, Saber spent five years in business development at Apple where he took part in a 2-year exclusive immersive leadership program. He was the Chief Business Officer for The Tubby , an innovative hand-blown pint glass design that was fully funded on KickStarter in 36 hours.

Melanie Deziel, one of B2B content marketing's leading voices, has joined as a Co-Founder and VP of Marketing, leading brand, content, social, acquisition & other strategic communications. Since 2015, Deziel has worked as a speaker, consultant and corporate trainer, having done work with more than 30% of the Fortune 100 companies.

Deziel was the first ever Editor of Branded Content at The New York Times, helping to found the sponsored content team, T Brand Studio, which brought in more than $18M in revenue its first year. She oversaw content partnerships for Time Inc.'s 35 US-based media properties as Director of Creative Strategy. Deziel is also the author of the best-selling marketing and business communications book,“The Content Fuel Framework: How to Generate Unlimited Story Ideas.”

“Sayed has worked at exactly the intersection of what The Convoy is building through his work as Head of Solutions Partnerships at Square, another organization that champions small and independent businesses,” said Abbak.“Combined with his 6 years at Apple, you would be hard pressed to find a more uniquely qualified person to lead partnerships while advocating for small businesses.”

“Not only is Melanie one of the world's leading experts in content marketing and branded storytelling, but we have also built 3 successful businesses together,” Abbak said.“We're looking to add to that track record through something our founding team is incredibly passionate about: tipping the scales in favor of local business owners.”

The Convoy's Savings Marketplace features a growing library of money-saving offers on business expenses, from technology, analytics tools, cleaning supplies and insurance, to furniture, education, printing, logistics, and more. In their months-long private pilot, The Convoy saved its small business members thousands of dollars, with some independent businesses saving as much as $15,000.

The Convoy closed a $1 million funding round in late 2021 that included Tim Young of Eniac Ventures, Scot Wingo of Get Spiffy and founding CEO of Channel Advisor, a VP at Google, the former CMO of Walmart, the former head of M+A at Clearco, and a founder of Cloudera.
