Afghanistan - Iranian consulate suspends tourist visa service for 15 days

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): The Iranian consulate in western Herat province says the issuance of tourist visas has been suspended for 15 days in order to prevent the spread of a new variant of the coronavirus.

In a statement, the consulate said the tourist visa service would stay suspended for 15 days with effect from Saturday to check the spread of omicron,

“Therefore, those who have already received tourist visas are requested not to approach this mission,” the statement added.

The consulate also instructed those who had already received tourist visas but had not yet travelled to Iran not to cross the border for 15 days.

Isa, a resident of Herat, told Pajhwok Afghan News he was not allowed to enter Iran on Friday through Islam Qala Port despite having a tourist visa.

According to him, hundreds of people were waiting to enter Iran via the port. The individuals with tourist visas were denied entry but those with business visas were allowed to enter Iran, he added.

However, the diplomatic mission explained, tourist visa-holders could travel to the neighbouring country after 15 days.
